Rediscover S.T.A.R.S. 
The cameras are gone and it's back to business. S.T.A.R.S. is conducting an Open House on Sunday, April 18th, 2010 for the public to see the newly renovated facility at 8 Coleman Square, in Howard Beach (across the street from the A train station). This is also a chance to learn about the programs offered at that facility, such as our 1st Step Program for 3 & 4 year olds, Summer Program for children ages 5 and up, and the After School Program. The open house will be from 10 am to 2 pm.
Just recently S.T.A.R.S. was the subject of a new television show on Discovery Channel called Construction Intervention, and as a result the S.T.A.R.S. facility got a complete makeover. Filming and renovation went on from March 16th to March 21st, 2010, with a big reveal on the 21st. "Since then there has been a few odds and ends that still need some attention, but the change has been a mind-blowing experience," said Frances O. Scarantino, President and Founder of S.T.A.R.S. "We are still getting used to the new place, but the children and the parents absolutely love it. People are constantly stopping in to see the place. Since the neighborhood has been so accommodating during all of the upheaval, I thought appropriate to show it off to the curious public." There will be lots of giveaways at the open house, as well, and a sneak preview as to what you can expect when the show airs on May 25th, 2010. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend the open house.
Zumba 
Ditch the workout - Join the Party!
Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music (Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia and Reggaeton) that creates a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness system, and it is now being offered at S.T.A.R.S. for adults.
Join Danielle, a certified Zumba instructor, on Wednesdays from 8:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. for only $5.00 per class. (This is an introductory offer and will be offered at this rate for only a limited time!)
