Mission Statement

Striving To Achieve & Reach Success, Inc. (S.T.A.R.S.) is a non-profit grass-roots community youth organization. It consists entirely of caring and dedicated volunteers who endeavor to provide mutually rewarding activities and events for the youth in our neighborhoods. As adults and youth interact with one another, a natural increase in the quality of life occurs in our area. S.T.A.R.S. has been created to provide opportunities to enable youth to reach their full potential so that they may ultimately be greater assets to all of us. Encouraging, abilities of our youth certainly brings great rewards to our community.

Description of facility: Two floors

• Ground floor consists of large open space with mirrored walls for dance and cheerleading classes, one smaller room for DJ Instruction class, and bathroom.
• Second floor consists of five rooms and a bathroom. The administrative office, kitchen/arts & crafts room, reading room for educational workshops and clinics, STARS store where items that the young people make, as well as items donated, can be sold to the public (store is also run by youth volunteers), and common room where Girls Night In, Movie Night and other various programs are held. Tours of the facility can be arranged by appointment. Please contact us if you wish to tour the facility.

The Program

The program is run entirely by volunteers, there is no paid staff. Programs offered fall into three categories:

1. Recreational (performing arts classes, athletic activities, games, etc.)
2. Educational (Reading Programs, Career Development)
3. Self-development (Girls Night In, Community Service Projects, Self-Esteem Team)

Members

The programs are designed for both male and female participants, unless otherwise noted (i.e. Boy’s Hip-Hop, Girl’s Night In), and consist of mostly neighborhood youth, ranging in age from as young as three, to as old as twenty-one. There are no membership fees or costs, however, we do ask for donations to keep the programs running.
